How I Give Back

A cracker of a morning sunrise on the beach this morning. So grateful for every bit of this trip, particularly as we might never have made it. Thanks to all the wonderful people we met and the friends we made this year. This place is an always a shot in the arm of inspiration and a reminder that anything is possible.

Is it the sultry Miami nights? Or the fact that I’ve mostly only seen contemporary primary market work for two days? But so far, this is without doubt, my absolutely favourite thing I’ve seen. There’s an authenticity and a patina you just can’t replicate. Lots of discussions with son John about appropriation both in the art and theatre worlds. Thanks too to the lovely gallerist for pointing us in the direction of Richard Prince’s three hour testimony on you tube in his court case about this very thing. A juicy thought provoking work on so many levels.

Awwwwwww what a joy to see this beautiful work by @polly_townsend now installed in this stunning project I was asked to help find the art for by the clever gals @i_d_lab. Their schemes are a dream to work with and they make my job easy. Polly’s work was the perfect choice for these mountain loving clients. Polly climbs the mountains she paints and has a deep understanding of her landscapes - it’s just one of the reasons they are just so damn good. Ten ideas for you or your clients space costs £220. @jilltate_ is my latest huge girl crush. I’ve been hankering after one of hers since her solo @seventeengallery. I could probably write an essay on what I feel about these seemingly at first simple, but I think, oddly deep works. The next best next thing to buying one myself though is making what may be one of the most satisfying placements I have made in a client’s recently colour drenched room. When I took the work round on approval we all went a bit quiet, gulped, looked at each other and shook our heads saying it doesn’t get better than this. The work looks like it was made for there. This playroom turned adult snug is a master piece in the use of colour. There are oddly so many colours in here but yet the overall feeling is one of a cooconing ochre. The observant amongst you will notice that the lamp looks like it is casting light on the drawers. Which is wierd and cool and another sign from the universe that This Was a Match Made in Heaven. Wonderful to be back at this client’s house this morning. I swear that this beautiful Kate Giles painting changes to reflect the seasons! I am sure that when I first placed it, it looked like spring and now it’s feeling way more autumnal. Painting that is so in tune with the landscape that it is from that it contains every season within. Hmmmm. It was wonderful to return to this client’s home today and hear what her art journey has done for her over the last couple of years. An extremely successful high functioning clever gal, today we talked about how art has made her feel again. Her home has slowly evolved from a (her words) slightly austere house into a cosy home that is slowly filling with artworks that “she sits and looks at and absolutely loves”. Today was a big reminder about why I love doing what I do - I’m not selling art, I’m matchmaking people with it and watching them fall in love along the way. It’s a real honour to be able to do that I am so grateful that my clients met me into their spaces and their lives and we go on these journeys together. I love my job and where it runs to. In this case to one beauts house near Chichester with a couple who love running. Of course we put the women in the lead with the man chasing! There was no other way! These works in the heart of their home provide light and movement and joy. A super hang. Very odd (and lovely) to be dream scrolling through @themodernhouse and think - gosh that looks familiar! And lo and behold it is! A client of mine’s beautiful flat that I sourced art for many moons ago. And gave some advice to not sell her lovely inherited print by Barbara Hepworth. It made me really happy to still see this up. Clients are often surprised about how often I tell them not to buy something, or hang something there or to hold onto something. Hepworth prints have probably trebled in price since I advised this client not to sell hers. If you would like some advice, a home consultation costs £220.

I’m completely OBSESSED with the works by @craigsimpsonartist who is represented by the wonderful @castlegatehousegallery. I’m so obsessed that I bought one a few months ago and here we are this morning doing the handover! Steve thought I might not get it in my fiat but how little does he know that I can get a 1.2 x 1.2m in with a little bit of creative thinking. Also have 7.5m squared of very nice tiles that are in there too - currently for sale on Facebook marketplace if anyone is interested 😂.
